Footsteps in the Snow

Well, I’ve returned to Liverpool and as promised I’m going to upload something that is actually new – I wrote it in the last Creative Writing meet, and I’ve tweaked it a little but this is essentially what I wrote. The prompt was Will’s hat which was black and I think it was agreed that it was a fedora, but I’m not sure. Anyway, here it is:

Footsteps in the Snow

Everything seemed to be in black and white. It was night-time. The sky was dark and clear, and tiny pinpricks of white light shore out of the heavens, the stars’ bloated companion, the moon, staring balefully across the field. Footsteps stood out against the pale snow, shadows filling the depths of the imprints of the man’s boots. His weight had crushed the snow and packed it tight, and the little girl followed him painstakingly, picking her way across the frozen ground, careful not to disturb the fragile powder piled up around them. Light bounced off her midnight curls, shimmering through the air, which was heavy with promise of more snow. Continue reading
